Toyota Now Facing Supererogation Action From Angry Insurance Firms

The problems for Toyota seem to be been piling up day after day. If they haven’t enough problem with angry lawmakers, frightened customers, massive recalls and million dollar fines then the last straw would be answering some tough questions from the auto insurance companies.

State Farm and Allstate both have confirmed that they have started a “supererogation” process with Toyota.

A supererogation means shifting a financial burden from one circle to another. The auto insurance companies claimed they have paid millions of dollars for accidents involving Toyota vehicles over the years. They are now trying to recover some of the money from them.

Allstate has notified Toyota about the claims that it believed to be the result of some product defects. In January there were 2.3 million vehicles recalls received by Toyota, for repairing a sticky accelerator pedal, describing the possibility of the source of some sudden acceleration incidents. Since then, Toyota has been steadfastly insisting that the electronics system were not at fault.

This is the latest setback for Toyota, holding 17% of US automotive market.
